Nantes’ defender Diego Carlos, left, is shown a red card by referee Tony Chapron.
PSG’s 1-0 win over Nantes on Sunday was overshadowed by an incident involving Ligue 1 referee Tony Chapron, who appeared to kick Nantes player Diego Carlos off the ball, before showing the defender a red card.

In the last minute of the game, PSG were advancing up the pitch on a counter attack when Carlos seemed to accidentally cross paths with Chapron. The referee stumbled and fell to the turf, before appearing to kick swing his right boot at the Nantes player.

After the coming together, referee Chapron gave Carlos a second yellow card, before blowing for full-time three minutes later.

French ref Tony Chapron banned after kicking Nantes’ Diego Carlos before sending him off

The banned official apologised in a staement but still faces a disciplinary committee.

He said: “During the match Nantes-PSG I was knocked over by Diego Carlos, a player with Nantes. At the moment of impact I felt a sharp pain where I had recently suffered an injury.

“My unfortunate reaction was to stick my leg out towards the player. This clumsy gesture was inappropriate. So I want to apologise following this action.”

Nantes defender Diego Carlos was incredibly shown a second yellow by the Frenchman, 45, after the pair accidentally collided during yesterday’s 1-0 loss against Paris Saint-Germain.
The French Football Federation confirmed: “Mr Tony Chapron, initially appointed for the Angers-Troyes match, has been withdrawn for the 21st Ligue 1 fixture on Wednesday January 17 until further notice.

“Chapron will shortly meet with the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) Disciplinary Committee.

“Chapron, after viewing the images, found that his fall had been caused unintentionally.
