Update: He strangled his girlfriend – denied reduced sentence
Serebe Brhane, 28, killed his girlfriend because she wanted to wait to get married.
After an argument, he strangled her and hanged her body with a cord around her neck – to make it look like suicide.
He himself claims still girlfriend fell ill and died – but the Supreme Court would examine his case.

Serbe Brhane wanted to marry his girlfriend to get a residence permit in Sweden, but his girlfriend got cold feet. This led to Serbe strangling his girlfriend and then trying to make it look like a suicide.

Throughout the case, the defendant had wanted to be tried for manslaughter and assault, so that he could be tried for a lesser sentence. As well as trying to ensure he couldn’t be deported after his sentence.

Timeline

On September 11, 2015, Serbe was denied a residence permit and it was decided that he would be expelled. An appeal was lodged, but the appeal was rejected.

In the spring of 2016, he went along to the Swedish Migration Board with his girlfriend, whom he met a year earlier. informing the authorities of the intention to marry her, so that Serbe could gain residency through family connections.

A few months later, his girlfriend got cold feet …
The last thing you know he told her before the murder was recorded on his phone:
– I’m not animal, you can manipulate as you wish. I am a human being. Okay?
Her death leaves 2 children without their mummy.
