Plane With Brazilian Football Players Crashes in Colombia



Plane with Chapecoense Brazilian professional football players reportedly crashes in Colombia at around 10:15pm local time in Cerro Gordo after disappearing in the Colombian airspace, the Jose Maria Cordova International Airport in Rionegro said in a statement, adding that there may be survivors.

According to local media, some 81 people were on board, including nine crew members. The football team was going to the South American Cup final against Atletico Nacional in a game set for Wednesday.

Local Police Chief: One Survivor Died on the Way to Hospital

Jose Acevedo Ossa, the Medellin police chief specified the number of victims, adding that one survivor died on his way to hospital. “Six people were rescued alive, but [later] unfortunately one died; the rest of the passengers unfortunately died. The tragic toll is 76 victims,” General Jose Gerardo Acevedo said. At the moment, the police confirms 76 people were killed by the plane crash in Colombia.
