Eritrea 4 – 1 Kenya : Reigning champions eliminated from CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup
Reigning Champions Harambee Stars have been eliminated from the ongoing CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup after losing 4-1 in the hands of Eritrea in a semi-final clash staged at KCCA Grounds in Kampala-Uganda.
An own goal from Oscar Wamalwa handed Eritrea the lead before Abel Solomon netted the second after the restart of second half. Wamalwa pulled one back for Harambee Stars which turned out to be a consolation goal as Kenya was stunned with two more goals from Kidane and Micheal Habte.
Harambee Stars, the Group B winners were up against Group A winners in the first semi-final of the tournament.
Eritrea was enjoying most of the possession in the early exchanges, keeping the ball as well as producing neat passes. Kenya could not keep the pressure and conceded in the 19th minute as Robel Kidane’s saw Oscar Wamalwa put the ball into his own net to hand Eritrea the lead.
In the second half, Kenya trailed by two goals as they allowed Abel Solomon Okbay to net double Eritrea’s lead. Oscar Wamalwa, who scored an own goal reduced the deficit for Stars as he pulled one back to bring the game in his side’s touch.
