US President Donald Trump has said that Egypt will demolish the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam
US President Donald Trump has said that Egypt will demolish the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, which cost more than 120 billion birr. Trump said Egypt should not have allowed Ethiopia to build the dam.
The President said this in a statement issued by his office on Friday, October 23, 2020, regarding the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sudan and Israel.
During a telephone conversation with Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdock and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Donald Trump, who suddenly raised the issue of the Renaissance Dam, was quoted as saying, “Unfortunately, the dam will stop flowing into the Nile.”
“I presented them with an agreement. Unfortunately, Ethiopia did not accept the agreement.
They should not have done so. That is a big mistake,” said Donald Trump, who confirmed that his country had stopped “providing a lot of aid” to Ethiopia.
“By doing so, we have stopped paying a lot of aid. They will not see the money unless they accept the agreement. They have built a dam to stop the flow of water into the Nile.
Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdock lauded the United States’ efforts in Washington to mediate between the three countries, saying “we hope to reach an agreement that will benefit Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt.”
The Ethiopian Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement following a meeting between Israeli and Sudanese leaders regarding the Renaissance Dam.
Ethiopians, let’s stand together for Ethiopia
The Renaissance Dam is the Ethiopian Dam. Ethiopians started it: Ethiopians built it; So Ethiopians will finish it. Inevitably.
